2025 Hat Parade

The school's annual hat parade will take place on Friday 4th April (last day of term one) at approximately 9:10am on the basketball court.

We hope that all students will make a hat at home and participate in the parade. The use of recycled materials is encouraged and any acceptable theme is welcomed.

Over the last couple of years, we had some wonderful hats made from all sorts of things:
  • an old bike helmet
  • carboard tubes
  • egg cartons
  • Kinder Surprise shells
  • old toys
  • plastic bottles
  • old baskets
  • cardboard boxes
  • buttons
  • old soft toys
  • old pieces of a pinata
  • Lego
  • bottle corks
  • Play Doh containers
  • drink bottle lids and tin tabs
  • old plastic toys
  • scraps of paper
  • sponges
  • pegs
  • bread tags
  • old hats
  • and many other things
It is amazing what can be created from bits and pieces you find around the house!

A wonderful persuasive letter was written to Mrs Williamson by a couple of students after the 2022 hat parade. While they love the hat parade and think that it is important to have as a school community event, they felt that it was very unfair when students had hats that were made by parents. They argued that kids need to be creative and do the work to make the hats, not the parents. They stated that sometimes, the parents even pick the theme or topic of the hat, do all the making and the child does not even get to help!

While of course, we want parents to help and support their child, please make sure that the child does the majority of the work in choosing the theme, creating the design and the making of the hats.

We will be parading under the COLA at around 9:10am. Parents are most welcome to attend and we would love you to join in too - perhaps you can make your own hats!

All students who participate will gain points for their house. These points go towards determining the winning house at the end of the year.
